Climate action must be part of COVID recovery

HALIFAX -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement ahead of today’s Climate Strike in Halifax:

“No matter how much our world has changed in the face of COVID-19, one thing that has not is the very serious climate emergency before us. As we begin to rebuild the economy from the effects of the pandemic we must ensure that tackling the climate emergency is at the center of those efforts.

Governments will be making major investments to help stimulate the economy. Those investments must be focused on creating sustainable, green jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

We can have a province where people’s basic needs can be met, and where we can rely on food, energy, and goods and services that are produced here at home. We can invest in public services, affordable housing and public transit and by doing so create good jobs.”
