More job losses under Liberal government
December 8, 2014
NDP Leader Maureen MacDonald says the McNeil government owes Nova Scotians an explanation for why it has no plan to create jobs and grow the economy.
MacDonald made the comments after Statistics Canada released its November employment figures on Friday, Dec. 5. Nova Scotia lost 1,300 jobs last month.
“It’s troubling that Stephen McNeil and his government are content to sit on their hands while thousands of people leave Nova Scotia in order to find work out west,” said MacDonald. “Given our economic circumstances, it’s unforgivable that the Liberal government still doesn’t have a plan to create jobs well into the second year of its mandate.”
She added, “There is only one Premier in the entire country who doesn’t think government has a role to play in job creation and that’s Stephen McNeil. As a result, while Canada has gained 146,000 jobs in the past year, our province has suffered a decline in employment.”
According to Statistics Canada, since Stephen McNeil became Premier, the only province to suffer more job losses than Nova Scotia is Quebec.
