NDP calling on Stephen McNeil to meet with Screen Nova Scotia immediately
August 27, 2015
Nova Scotia NDP Leader Maureen MacDonald says Stephen McNeil should meet with Screen Nova Scotia tomorrow to develop a plan to prevent the loss of PS Atlantic and SIM Digital.
Late this afternoon the companies announced they were leaving Nova Scotia due to the McNeil government’s decision to slash the film tax credit. They have operated in Nova Scotia since 1987. Screen Nova Scotia wants an emergency meeting with Premier McNeil in an attempt to prevent more job losses.
“Day after day were are learning of more job losses because Stephen McNeil cut the film tax credit,” says MacDonald. “In June the NDP tried to have the CEO of NSBI, Laurel Broten, appear before the Public Accounts Committee to answer questions about the new credit but the Liberals refused. As a province we can’t just continue to sit on our hands and do nothing as our film industry packs up and moves away.”
MacDonald adds, “Before Stephen McNeil leaves for Asia on Saturday he needs to meet with Screen Nova Scotia.”
