NDP introduces bill to ensure more Nova Scotians are protected under the Workers Compensation Act

The NDP is asking the government to ensure more Nova Scotians are protected under the Workers Compensation Act.
Today, NDP Labour Critic Frank Corbett tabled a bill that would eliminate the age 65 ceiling for receiving workers compensation benefits. This would allow more people to continue working longer without having to worry about not being covered in the event of a workplace accident.
“It’s no secret that more Nova Scotians are working longer and I think the Workers Compensation Program needs to reflect that,” said Corbett. “If someone wants to continue working beyond the age of 65 they should be entitled to the same coverage as someone 20 years younger. This bill is just ensuring all workers are treated equally and fairly.”
Corbett added, “I think this is a reasonable suggestion and I hope the Liberal government will allow the bill to proceed to second reading for debate.”
