Join the Kings County NDP in the Apple Blossom
Start: May 30, 2015 11:30 AM
We will once again proudly participate in the annual Apple Blossom Festival Grand Street Parade in Kentville. We welcome all New Democrats and supporters to join us as we create a colourful ORANGE presence in this year’s parade. This is a major regional event and give special emphasis this year to our recently selected Kings – Hants federal candidate, Morgan Wheeldon.
Walking entries in the Apple Blossom Parade gather on the grounds of the Kentville Agricultural Research Station at the east end of Main Street. [Take Highway 101 to Exit 12 (New Minas), come down the connector road and turn left at the traffic lights to head 1 kilometer towards Kentville.] The entrance to the Research Station is marked by a sign on your left and there will be a parade marshal at the entrance to tell you our assembly number.
You should plan to be at the Research Station by 11:30 a.m. It is suggested that you bring a snack, water, dress for the weather conditions, and … naturally, include a gaudy amount of orange in your sartorial choice.
We relax, chat, prepare our signs, banners, balloons, etc. and are called into the parade at some point after it begins at 1 p.m. sharp.
The focus of this march is, however, on “the Party” and its nominated federal candidate. Naturally, they are welcome to “glad-hand” and “schmooze” with the crowds along the way just as Morgan and former MLAs Ramona Jennex and Jim Morton are likely to do!
The Parade is approximately 3 kilometers long and will take about 1 hour to walk. Unless you have a lot of patience to wait for traffic to clear and someone willing to come pick you up, this means another 3 km walk back to the Research Station. Seniors and parents with young children will want to keep this in mind as a safety matter. On the plus side — especially if you have never walked in a major parade before — your first Apple Blossom will have the strange, fused excitement of a very slow bobsled run and playing several holes at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia. Great crowds and atmosphere!
We hope that you choose to join us. Questions? call Roger at 542-1176.
