Roseway ER closures up nearly 1,000 per cent since September

January 14, 2015

(Shelburne, NS) NDP MLA Sterling Belliveau is asking Health Minister Leo Glavine to take action to address chronic emergency room closures at Roseway Hospital in Shelburne.

“People in Shelburne County are growing weary of the emergency room closures at Roseway Hospital. In the last five months the ER has been closed more than double the amount of hours it was closed the entire year before,” said Belliveau.

“It’s time for the Minister to get to work and see that this issue is resolved.”

Between Sept. 1, 2014 and today there have been approximately 261 hours of ER closures at Roseway Hospital. Between Sept.1, 2013 and Jan. 30, 2014 the ER was closed only 24 hours equating to a 987.5 per cent increase in hours of emergency room closures.

“To have emergency room closures increase by almost 1,000 per cent from last fall to this fall is a serious problem. It’s time for the Minister to address this issue,” said Belliveau.
