Kathleen Kevany chosen as NDP Candidate in Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River

Truro -- Dr. Kathleen Kevany will be the NDP candidate in the upcoming byelection in Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River. Kevany is an Associate Professor at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Agriculture in Truro. Her work focuses on sustainable agriculture and community well-being.

“I want to represent this area to place greater emphasis on the positive and productive people, organizations, and businesses that work to enhance the quality of life for us all. We also need to acknowledge the systems in place that mean so many people struggle to make ends meet or get the health care they need, ” said Kevany, who was chosen as the NDP candidate from a field of four nominees. “I’m proud to continue the work of the NDP in Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River, and to fight for needed solutions that can be implemented now and make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River has been without an MLA since early in September. The NDP is focused on solutions to the health care crisis and the climate emergency, and making sure people can afford to live.

“We have a government in Nova Scotia that is bent on ignoring the difficult issues people face - whether it’s accessing a nursing home bed or addressing the climate emergency,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “Our province is stuck at the bottom on so many issues. We need representatives like Kathleen who will fight for something better.”

The NDP has represented Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River since 2009. A byelection must be called by March 2020.
