New beds in Meteghan don’t even scratch the surface

Halifax - NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement in response to today’s announcement about new long-term care beds in Meteghan:

“In the 2,093 days since Stephen McNeil became Premier, the total of new nursing home beds opened has been zero.

Today, as yesterday, as tomorrow, hundreds of people are living in hospitals in Nova Scotia. They’re not there because their conditions call for hospitalization, but because no nursing home places are available for them. What is required is a comprehensive program of new nursing home construction across all of Nova Scotia.”
