Nova Scotians still waiting for gridlock traffic solutions from Houston government
HALIFAX – Today, NSNDP Public Works Critic Kendra Coombes made the following statement about the Traffic Safety Act Regulations released today:
“Nova Scotians are deeply frustrated about the worsening traffic congestion in the province. It’s about time the Houston government is finally starting to modernize some traffic laws but what was announced today won’t fix the traffic mess Nova Scotians are dealing with every day.
Last year, Nova Scotians in HRM lost four days of their lives sitting in traffic just trying to get to work, drop their kids off at school, or get home. The Houston government isn’t getting it. They haven’t delivered meaningful solutions even though they have multiple traffic studies collecting dust on their desks. Shockingly, they have even tried to cut programs that made public transit more accessible like student bus passes and they keep making choices that keep cars on the road like taking the tolls off the bridges in HRM.
Nova Scotians need safer roads, but they also need a government with a real plan to cut down congestion, improve transit, and help people spend less of their lives stuck in gridlock.”
