Appointment of former Liberal Cabinet Minister to NSBI post raises questions
January 14, 2015
(Halifax, NS) NDP Leader Maureen MacDonald says she has questions about why the Liberal government has selected former Liberal Ontario Cabinet Minister Laurel Broten to be the new President and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc.
“Over the past decade Ms. Broten held several portfolios in Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government but economic development was never one of them,” said MacDonald. “I’m curious about her experience in both economic development and the private sector.”
MacDonald says given Nova Scotia’s declining job numbers, it’s crucial the best person is selected to run NSBI. She hopes Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson will live up to his promise of transparency by allowing the public to see the qualifications of not just Ms. Broten, but also those passed over for the job.
“Nova Scotians need to be assured that the person just selected to manage economic investments on behalf of the province was hired due to her professional qualifications and not her political affiliations.”
