VIDEO: Darrell and the NDP fight for good jobs to make a better future for today’s families

September 28, 2013

(Halifax, N.S.) Today, the NDP campaign will release a new, two-minute long TV ad that features Premier Darrell Dexter speaking to young Nova Scotians about the NDP’s record on jobs. Watch it here.

“We compete with every jurisdiction in North America, so when you see something like the contract to build ships in Halifax, you know, we had to go after that,” Dexter begins. “Because if we didn’t, then those jobs were going to be in Ontario, or British Columbia or Quebec, or somewhere, but they weren’t going to be here.”

The ad also reminds Nova Scotians that both Liberal leader Stephen McNeil and PC leader Jamie Baillie are unwilling to fight for jobs.

“If I would’ve listened to the other opposition leaders, there would be 1,000 people out of work at Port Hawkesbury in the strait right now. But allowing a US company to strip that mill out and take it to Wisconsin is not responsible.”

“We’re going to continue to invest in training, we’re going invest more money in quality education because that works for everybody,” Dexter continues. “A good workforce is going to attract or keep a company and that means that there will be good, family-supporting jobs for people who work there. And that’s good for the community, that’s good for the family, and it’s good for the province.”

The NDP will: deliver better health care where and when people need it, fight for good jobs and stronger communities, keep the HST off home energy and take it off more family essentials, give our kids a better start, stand up for seniors, build the Maritime Link and keep the budget balanced to protect services for families.

Election day is Tuesday, October 8.
