NDP continue to urge McNeil government to hit the pause button on film tax credit changes

NDP leader Maureen MacDonald says the Premier needs to lay off his tough tactics and hit the pause button on changes to the film tax credit.

“We now know the McNeil government did no comprehensive analysis of how the gutting of this tax credit would affect people in our province and our economy as a whole. We think that should happen before any changes to the credit,” said MacDonald.

MacDonald attended a Public Accounts committee meeting this morning where she had an opportunity to ask questions about the tax credit to senior Department of Finance officials. They indicated the analysis they did was limited to tax data. The only economic analysis available was more than 10 years old.

“The McNeil government’s own tax review recommends industry and the province study the tax credit together and look at changes over the long term. I think the Premier should reconsider that advice,” said MacDonald.
