HALIFAX – Nova Scotia NDP Leader Gary Burrill is pleased to welcome Lisa Roberts to the NDP Caucus as the new MLA for Halifax Needham. Lisa is an accomplished community organizer with a proven record of building relationships with residents of North End Halifax.

“Our caucus, and the province, will benefit greatly from Lisa’s experience collaborating with residents and community organizations and from her proven leadership in amplifying the voices of people in her community,” said Burrill.

“I am honoured that the people of Halifax Needham have put their trust in me to represent them at Province House,” said Roberts. “An MLA should be a partner with the people they represent and I am ready to get to work on pressing community issues like access to family doctors, investment in community groups, and affordable housing.”

Lisa Roberts most recently served as Executive Director of Veith House. Previously, Lisa helped to grow the North End Community Circle (NECC), a project that connects hundreds of residents and dozens of non-profits, and established the NECC community garden adjacent to Fort Needham Park. A former journalist, Lisa has a Masters in Development Economics from Dalhousie University.

“This campaign would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of the dozens of volunteers who did canvassing, phoning, fundraising, data entry, cooking, and more,” said Roberts. “I am grateful for all the support and look forward to continuing our work to build strong communities in Halifax Needham and across the province.”

For 18 years, Halifax Needham was served by NDP MLA Maureen MacDonald. The Nova Scotia NDP Caucus commends Maureen for her many years of service.
