New Glasgow—Last night, former municipal councillor and mayoral candidate Henderson Paris was nominated as the NDP candidate for Pictou Centre.

He was voted in by NDP members in a contested nomination. There were two nomination candidates, Paris and NSCC faculty member John Atwater.

“I am completely ecstatic that the membership have put their faith and trust behind me, which enables me to carry the banner for the NDP to become the next MLA for Pictou Centre,” said Paris. “Pictou Centre needs to have a breath of new life and energy and vision that I am committed to delivering to the residents of our communities. Together we can do this.”

A long-time New Glasgow resident, Paris founded the Run Against Racism in 1990.

“Henderson Paris is a strong addition to our team of NDP candidates,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “He has heard the cry in Pictou Centre for something better, and will offer a vision and commitment focused on investing in people. I am thrilled to give him my welcome and congratulations.”

Paris will run in the next provincial election against PC incumbent Pat Dunn.
