McNeil government cuts vital information resource in budget
April 14, 2015
NDP Leader and Finance critic Maureen MacDonald is calling on the McNeil government to restore funding for the Nova Scotia Community Counts program.
“Nova Scotia Community Counts is an important resource for individuals, community organizations and municipal governments doing research and making decisions that affect thousands of Nova Scotians,” said MacDonald.
“The loss of this program will negatively impact programs and services delivered to Nova Scotians, including the most vulnerable,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald says by limiting access to important demographic information about rural Nova Scotia, Stephen McNeil is acting a lot like Stephen Harper, who cut the Long Form Census. Going forward, Nova Scotians looking for local demographic information will be referred to Statistics Canada.
