NDP Leader Gary Burrill campaigning in Cape Breton Centre

NEW WATERFORD – NDP Leader Gary Burrill arrives in Cape Breton this afternoon for three days of campaigning with Tammy Martin, the NDP candidate in Cape Breton Centre. Burrill and Martin will be speaking with people in the New Waterford and Dominion area, and will hold a number of meetings with individuals and organizations.

There will also be a public town hall event with Burrill and Martin on Friday, January 6, at 6:30 pm at the New Waterford Fire Hall. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

“New Democrats are standing up for the issues that matter to Cape Bretoners,” said Martin. “I will work to improve health care services in our community, to keep good jobs in Cape Breton, and provide more support to families so that kids aren’t going to food banks.”

“Stephen McNeil keeps saying we can’t. We can’t raise the minimum wage. We can’t invest in public education. We can’t provide proper care for seniors,” said Burrill. “I know we can do this. We can invest in the classroom. We can have a $15 minimum wage that lets people make ends meet. We can make sure seniors get the care and dignity they deserve.”
