School Board Representative Nancy Jakeman to run for NDP in Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage

April 10, 2017

For immediate release.

EASTERN PASSAGE – Two-term Halifax Regional School Board member Nancy Jakeman will run for the NDP in Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage. Jakeman lives in Eastern Passage with her husband and two children and was elected to the school board in 2012 and re-elected in 2016.

As a school board representative, Jakeman has focused on bringing a new high school to Eastern Passage, and recently has called on the Minister of Education to review busing policies.

“I’ve lived in Eastern Passage all my life. My kids go to school here and my grandmother lives at Ocean View Manor. I’m concerned about the negative impact the Liberal government has had on our community, especially the state of our classrooms and cuts to nursing homes,” said Jakeman. “Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage are vibrant, diverse and hard-working communities. We deserve a government that will invest in our schools, our nursing homes, and our communities.”

“At a time when education issues are so front and centre in our province, I am pleased and excited that someone of Nancy Jakeman’s experience and community connection is our candidate in Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill.

Jakeman will be nominated on Thursday, April 13th at 6:30 pm at the Buffalo Club, 625 Cow Bay Road.
