Nova Scotia Stands with Boston

April 16, 2013

The province is offering support to Boston in light of Monday’s tragic events.

Premier Darrell Dexter is writing to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick offering support and, on behalf of all Nova Scotians, the province will make a $50,000 donation to the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children.

“When we were in need, Bostonians were there,” said Premier Dexter. “There is a border and hundreds of miles between us, but Massachusetts is always close to the hearts of Nova Scotians. We will do everything we can to support our neighbours and friends in their time of need. Boston’s resilience and fighting spirit will persevere.”

The legislature today, April 16, adopted a resolution of support, to be sent to the governor, House and Senate of Massachusetts. The premier paid tribute in the legislature to volunteers and first responders in Boston.

“Let’s think for a moment about those volunteers in Boston who woke up yesterday morning, put on their volunteer gear, and headed out with a smile, ready to help those runners have the experience of a lifetime,” said the premier. “Today, those are the people we salute. The volunteers, the first responders, the spectators, the good people — the people who ran toward the smoke to help.”

Premier Dexter also thanked Nova Scotians for their show of support.

Information will be available at www.novascotia.ca later today on how to donate to organizations in the Boston area.
