Statement from MLA for Dartmouth South Marian Mancini

November 10, 2016

HALIFAX – Marian Mancini, NDP MLA for Dartmouth South released the following public statement today:

I thought at a certain age decision making would get easier. I have proven myself to be wrong. I have, however, finally decided that I will not be re-offering as the MLA candidate for Dartmouth South in the next election.

When I decided to run in the by-election, I planned to take it one campaign at a time. After reflecting on the matter and seeking some advice from trusted friends, I decided this is the right decision for myself and my family.

While this job has proven to be challenging, it has also proven to be very rewarding. Dartmouth South is a wonderful community. I will treasure the knowledge that I have gained in my role as MLA, just as I will treasure the friendships I have made.

It is my intention to remain in the position as MLA until an election is called. So, until then, it is business as usual in the constituency office at 33 Ochterloney. I’m also looking forward to lending my support to Gary Burrill and the NDP candidate in Dartmouth South, whenever the election is called.

My heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful constituents of Dartmouth South. It has been my pleasure serving on your behalf.

Mancini was elected as the MLA for Dartmouth South in a by-election in 2015. Previously, she served the public as a lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid.

NDP Leader Gary Burrill offered words of gratitude for Mancini’s work in the Caucus.

“Marian has made great contributions to our Caucus over the past two years, particularly when it comes to issues of Community Service and Justice,” said Burrill. “It is a pleasure to work with such a strong advocate for people facing injustice and I look forward to Marian’s continued work for our Party and Caucus during the remainder of her term.”
