NEW WATERFORD — Tammy Martin, NDP candidate for Cape Breton Centre made the following statement about the cancelling of the Coal Bowl because of the ongoing labour dispute between the Nova Scotia government and teachers:

The work that teachers do on a voluntary basis to support our children in sports, extracurricular activities, academic endeavors, and more cannot be overstated.

Over the past 18 months, the Liberal government has repeatedly disrespected teachers in the media while teachers, parents, and students call for much needed support and investment in our schools. Now, the public is forced to deal with the real community impact of the government’s decisions in the cancelling of the Coal Bowl.

Our kids deserve better. We deserve to know what actions our Liberal MLA, Dave Wilton, is taking to ensure that a deal is reached between the province and teachers and the necessary investments are made in our schools.
