NSNDP Leader statement on American tariffs

HALIFAX – NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement about American tariffs:

“The Trump tariffs have taken effect today leaving many Nova Scotians worried about their paycheques, their expenses and their family’s budget.

While no one can predict or control what this volatile President does, it’s crucial that the people of this province have the support they need to weather this storm.

Many Nova Scotians are already struggling with the high costs of housing, utilities and groceries – the last thing they need is another financial burden.

We have seen the people of this province pull together to support local producers and local small businesses because that’s who we are: we come together as one province and take care of each other when times are hard. We all have a special interest in seeing our province succeed.

The Houston government must put forward a meaningful plan to protect our traditional industries from the impacts of these tariffs, and communicate with Nova Scotians about what support is on the table so people can rest a little easier at night.”
