Corbett offers condolences on passing of Buddy MacMaster

Cape Breton Centre MLA Frank Corbett is offering condolences to the family of Buddy MacMaster on behalf of the NDP Caucus.

“I want to extend our deepest sympathies to Buddy’s friends and family on this sad day,” said Corbett. “Buddy’s son, Allan, is our colleague in the Legislature and I know the thoughts and prayers of all MLAs are with Allan during this difficult time.”

Corbett says he had the honour of working with Buddy MacMaster at the CTV Christmas Daddies Telethon and other televised events prior to entering politics. He says MacMaster helped make Celtic music popular around the world.

“Buddy was a hero to a lot of people of people in Cape Breton and around the world,” said Corbett. “He was the face of Celtic music for several decades. He helped make the genre popular and it’s really no stretch to say that Buddy MacMaster did for fiddle playing what Eric Clapton did for the electric guitar.”
