McNeil government’s neglect of health care system taking toll at Valley ER

March 10, 2015

NDP MLA Dave Wilson says the McNeil government’s neglect of the health care system is taking a toll at the Valley Regional Hospital (VRH).

An internal memo obtained by the NDP Caucus shows that last week staff at the VRH were asked to avoid admitting patients for overnight observation due to “overcapacity.” The memo also advises that “out of district” referrals should not be admitted unless an “absolute emergency.” (document attached)

“It’s not just in the HRM where Emergency Rooms are dealing with turmoil not witnessed since the winter of 2009, it’s also happening in the Health Minister’s own backyard,” says Wilson. “This is what happens when a government takes its eye off patient care because it is busy picking fights with health care workers.”
