Salvation Army’s Good Neighbour Energy Fund

The Salvation Army is once again running the Good Neighbour Energy Fund program, partnering with NS Power and the NS Government to provide emergency heating funds.

Founded in 1997, the Good Neighbour Energy Fund has helped thousands of people pay for heating including: firewood, coal, fuel oil, propane and electricity. Last year, 1,600 people received assistance through the GNEF.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Household is low income and located in Nova Scotia
  • Household is in an emergency heating situation
  • Household members have not received GNEF assistance in the past 36 months
  • Head of household completes & submits an application providing all requested information and supporting documents
