HALIFAX – Nova Scotia NDP Leader Gary Burrill is reaffirming the NDP’s commitment to eliminate tuition fees at the Nova Scotia Community College, following an announcement today about changes to the Skills Development program. This morning, Burrill attended an announcement from Kelly Regan, Minister of Labour and Advanced Education, regarding the changes.

“Adding $100 here and there for students in a targeted program will certainly help a handful of people in our province, but it does not address the fact that the main issues preventing people from accessing skills training are high tuition fees and student debt,” said Burrill.  “We need to open the doors of opportunity for a generation who have largely had them shut. We can do that by investing in our people’s skills.”

The Nova Scotia NDP has proposed eliminating tuition at the Nova Scotia Community College.  This policy would assist 11,000 full time students and over 11,000 part-time students at all 13 campuses of the NSCC.

“The Liberal plan will help a few hundred students while the NDP plan will help tens of thousands of students achieve their full potential,” said Burrill.
