McNeil should listen to teachers and get back to the bargaining table

For immediate release.

HALIFAX – NDP Leader Gary Burrill is calling on the McNeil government to return to the bargaining table with teachers to address workplace issues in the classroom.

“When teachers say that their working conditions are impacting the quality of education in Nova Scotia, I believe them,” said Burrill. “Teachers are the experts on what we need in the classroom. Stephen McNeil and his government should be listening to teachers and return to the bargaining table.”

Yesterday, the Liberal government requested the filing of the conciliator’s report regarding bargaining between the government and the Nova Scotia Teachers Union. Education Minister Karen Casey said she will not return to the bargaining table following the rejection of the most recent contract proposal by teachers across the province.
