Zann wants answers on Eastlink Fund
June 2, 2016
For Immediate Release
Halifax, NS – NDP Film and Television critic, Lenore Zann, wants answers as to why the Eastlink Fund for television production in Nova Scotia is still not operational. The Fund was supposed to start receiving applications on May 31st, but details for applications have not been released.
“People in the arts community tell me they know the CRTC has approved the Eastlink Fund’s operations, which was supposed to be the final step before applications could be received, yet we have heard nothing from the government on this important issue,” says Zann.
The Liberals mishandling of the Film Tax Credit has resulted in a number of film and television workers leaving the province. Production schedules have still not recovered. The Eastlink Fund was supposed to be up and running months ago but the government dragged their feet on replying to questions from the CRTC. The CRTC granted conditional approval for the Eastlink Fund in October, but the government did not reply to outstanding questions until this spring.
“The lack of respect from the Liberals to the arts community is truly astounding. Cultural work adds millions of dollars to our economy every year. The Liberals should restore the Film Tax Credit and get the Eastlink Fund working right away,” Zann concludes.
