REALITY CHECK: PC Housing Approach is Failing Nova Scotians

Today, the Minister of Opportunities and Social Development claimed that her government’s approach on housing was working.

“What we are doing is working, and it tells us to stay on the right path,” said Minister Corkum-Greek.

The data simply does not support that claim:

• Average rents across Nova Scotia have grown by $5,700 per year;
• The cost of buying a home relative to average income has doubled;
• Homelessness has more than tripled in Halifax.

“Nova Scotians know the truth no matter where they’re living: a tent, a car, a rented home, or a home they own. People are living with growing costs every day,” said Susan Leblanc, Critic for Service Nova Scotia, “What the PC government is doing is actually not working. It’s time for Houston’s government to listen to Nova Scotians and take a different approach to housing. They can start by seriously considering the three practical housing solutions the NSNDP put forward today.”
