Rents rising faster in Nova Scotia than anywhere else with no relief from Houston government

HALIFAX – Today, Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement about updated Rentals.ca’s October Rentals Report:

“As rents continue to skyrocket, it keeps getting harder for Nova Scotians to afford housing. In the last year, rents have risen faster in Nova Scotia than anywhere else in Canada.

Despite this, the Houston government seems ready to end the rent cap at the end of next year. Without protection from price hikes rents will continue climbing out of control. As Nova Scotians grow more and more frustrated and worried, they need the Houston government to hear them and take this crisis seriously. The NDP continues to push for real relief for renters, including ending the fixed term lease loophole and passing real rent control.”
