Claudia Chender takes down Houston in leaders debate
HALIFAX – NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender laid out her party’s plan to protect renters, increase the number of affordable homes, get Nova Scotians the primary care they need, and save families money during a leaders’ debate Thursday night.
Throughout the evening, Chender took Tim Houston to task for his weak record on housing and health care. Under the Conservative government, rents have skyrocketed and 145,000 Nova Scotians still don’t have primary care they can rely on.
“For all Nova Scotians to build a good life, we need homes we can afford, health care we can rely on, and a cost of living that doesn’t break the bank,” said Chender. “After big promises and wasteful spending from the Conservatives, things feel more out of reach than ever. Both Zach and Tim spent years in government and didn’t help families afford what they need. I’m running for Premier because the people of this province deserve a government who finally puts them first.”
While PC Leader Tim Houston and Liberal Leader Zach Churchill spent much of the televised debate bickering and deflecting blame, Chender delivered her message about improving health care, housing, and affordability in Nova Scotia.
“The NDP will protect renters and build homes that people can actually afford. Our doctor clinics will connect you to primary care, no matter where you live. We will lower the cost of essentials by removing the HST off of groceries, phone and internet,” said Chender. “Together, with your trust and your vote, we can build a province where every Nova Scotian can thrive.”
The NDP released its full platform Wednesday, which included plans to increase the number of affordable homes, reduce living costs for Nova Scotians and improve access to health care.
