PC Cabinet Minister threatens reproductive rights and freedoms
John Lohr, PC Candidate in Kings North and Minister of Housing, said he would like to see more “parameters around abortion” in an interview with Right Now, an anti-choice organization that aims to overturn reproductive rights in Canada.
In the interview, which he did during his run for the PC leadership, he also stated he was anti-choice and believed governments should restrict access.
“It’s very alarming that Tim Houston would let someone run under his banner, let alone appoint them to cabinet, when they’ve openly expressed these regressive views,” said NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender. “The government has no business interfering with people’s reproductive rights and freedoms. And John Lohr has no right to tell women what they can and can’t do with their own bodies.”
Right Now gave Lohr a score of 57/60 on policies and principles.
“It’s clear that John Lohr’s views on reproductive rights are questionable at best. The fact that he would even grant an interview with this organization should be condemned. But instead, Tim Houston either won’t stand up to the anti-choice factions in his party, or he’s catering to them via his candidates. Either way, it’s clear: the Conservatives cannot be trusted to protect a woman’s right to choose,” said Chender.
